Transforming SaLIS Journal’s Digital Presence: A Journey of Integration and Empowerment
In September 2014, the Surveying and Land Information Science Journal reached out to our team to create a website for their academic journal. Tasked with creating a digital crossroads and information hub, we embarked on a journey to streamline access for both current and prospective subscribers of the SaLIS Journal. This membership website would have members-only content that was gated by paid subscriptions to the journal.
Uniting Fragmented Information: A Coordinated Effort
Prior to our intervention, crucial information about the journal was scattered across three disparate websites. This fragmentation not only perplexed subscribers but also hindered the efficient updating of vital details like subscription rates. Recognizing the imperative for cohesion, we collaborated closely with SaLIS to gather, consolidate, and structure all pertinent information in a user-friendly format, ensuring seamless navigation for the website’s end-users.
Empowering Self-Publication: Building for the Future
Beyond mere consolidation, our vision extended towards empowering SaLIS with the capacity for self-publication. While SaLIS traditionally relied on Sheridan Press for publishing, we foresaw the importance of self-sufficiency. Thus, our design incorporated a framework that equips the journal with the autonomy to self-publish and maintain subscribership independently, should they opt for such a path in the future.
The Power of WordPress: A Platform for Growth
Central to our strategy was the selection of WordPress, renowned for its versatility and user-friendliness. Leveraging WordPress’s robust platform, we crafted a website equipped with intuitive content management functionalities.
