Your Website Should Be Mobile Friendly for these 3 Reasons

The modern consumer demands more, and will search elsewhere if your website is not mobile-friendly.

Has your business transitioned to a mobile-friendly website? Do you know whether or not mobile-friendly is implemented on your site?

In many ways, the use of mobile devices has overtaken the traditional desktop experience, and it’s important for businesses to keep up. According to Google internal search data, “Mobile makes up 88% of all “near me” searches, with those mobile searches growing at 146% year over year. (U.S., all devices, 2014-2015.) This means that mobile search is a key component of local business, with 55% of purchase-related conversions happening within an hour of mobile search. It’s clear why the mobile experience is important to consumers, but why is a mobile-friendly website so important for your business?

Your Website Should Be Mobile Friendly for these 3 Reasons

Rank Higher in Google Search

Starting April 21, 2015, Google Search expanded its ranking system to give preference to mobile-friendly sites. This means that if your business’s website isn’t mobile-friendly, your search ranking is hurting. The reduced search ranking combined with 88% of “near me” searches coming from mobile devices can really affect your local foot traffic. You don’t have any time to waste either- 55% of purchase-related conversions occur within 1 hour of mobile search.

Mobile Sites Provide Better User Experience

Once you have a potential customer viewing your website, the last thing you want is for them to abandon the site because it was a frustrating experience. According to a Google study, users are 5 times more likely to give up on the website they are browsing if the site isn’t optimized for mobile use, with 79% saying they will return to search and try to find another website to meet their needs. If the mobile user has to pinch or zoom to see your website’s content, then they may leave and check out your competitor’s website.

Be Mobile Before Your Competitors Are

93% of small business websites are not mobile-friendly, even though 4 out of 5 consumers use a smartphone to shop. This provides a great opportunity to stand out from your competitors, or an opportunity for your competitors to race ahead and steal your business. These statistics from Google will really hit home:

  • 61% of users said that if they didn’t find what they were looking for right away on a mobile site, they’d quickly move on to another site
  • 79% of people who don’t like what they find on one site will go back and search for another site
  • 50% of people said that even if they like a business, they will use them less often if the website isn’t mobile-friendly

Many of these studies were done in 2012-2014, so the issue of mobile-friendly is even more pressing in 2016. If your site is not mobile-friendly, make sure you’re a step ahead and upgrade to a mobile-friendly website.

Now you’re wondering, how do I check if my site is mobile friendly? Fortunately, Google Developers provides a great tool for analyzing if your site is mobile-friendly, and all it requires is typing your domain name and clicking analyze.
