Case Study: Colburn Strategic Partners provides web design and brand identity services to Jaswell’s Farm in Smithfield, RI

In 2023 Colburn Strategic Partners was hired by Jaswell’s Farm for a website redesign, brand identity update, and graphic design. Colburn Strategic Partners was chosen because of our expertise in both web design and commercial print design, as the brand identity update required the redesigning the website, store signage, and food & beverage labels.

Jaswell’s Farm wanted to do a overhaul of their brand identity to have a new logo to represent their farm as they entered their 125 years in business. This was also coinciding with a major renovation to upgrade their market, bakery, and facilities. Their existing logo had served them well for some time but was starting to look dated, and didn’t represent the overall vision going forward.

Logo Design Before & After

We started by creating a logo concept around their new tagline, “Rooted in family traditions since 1899.” We wanted to maintain a rustic, somewhat vintage look to the logo, and the client requested that a red tractor be included in the logo. After our graphic designers went through designing the first draft of logo concepts and some rounds of revisions, we desgned a logo that was reminiscent of a carved sign, with a scene on the top half featuring a tractor in front of two apple trees.

With the logo design complete we moved on to designing their new website to match the new brand identity. Before we worked with Jaswell’s Farm, their site looked dated and wasn’t fully responsive when viewed on mobile devices. After we worked with them to redesign their site on WordPress, they’re now able to easily update the website, their website is mobile-friendly, and it has been optimized for search engines. Since working with us, we’ve helped provide ongoing website support – and we’ve helped them manage over 300,000 views on their website per year.

After completing the website, we began redesigning their store signage and product labels. Our graphic designers created a cohesive set of labeling to be used across all of their products, and facilitated the pre-press design and layout for what would become 500,000+ printed labels. These labels would be used on apple cider that is sold wholesale to markets and farm stands across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
